Poachers Hideaway as a peaceful relaxing holiday retreat evolved nearly twenty years ago when Andrew Tuxworth purchased what was then a run down sheep farm.
Andrew is a Lincolnshire lad born and bred, he has been involved in farming all his life, he is a keen walker and has extensive knowledge of the local area.
Andrew worked closely with architects and planners to achieve the sympathetically renovated farm buildings here today. He has gained many farming and wildlife awards over the years also being a two times winner of the Lincolnshire Environmental Award as a direct result of his work at Poachers Hideaway.
Poachers Hideaway has also been awarded the prestigious Gold Taste of Excellence Award by the Lincolnshire Life Magazine for the 2018 Food & Drink awards. Please click here to see our Self Catering Venue of 2018 Citation Certificate.
Looking out over Belchford village you can see Tattershall Castle and the fens. The Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival, an annual event that takes place in May, is a series of guided fun walks for all around the Wolds, providing an opportunity to explore the beauty of the Wolds and surrounding area. One of the walks is based at Flintwood Farm and is led by Andrew himself with his extensive knowledge.
Please read Our Diary which will be updated weekly with news future events and photographs.
Fishing Holidays at Poachers Hideaway
Fishermen, women and children of all ages and abilities are invited to fish our lakes.
It is essentially coarse fishing with Carp (up to 25lbs), Tench, Roach and Bream but do not be surprised if you land the odd Brown Trout as there are a few in there, just to keep the small fry down. Poachers Hideaway lakes are for the exclusive use of our guests and fishing is open.
There are no “pegs”, we simply ask that you treat both the sport and habitat with respect and that children are accompanied by a responsible adult as the water is very deep in places. Although the fish are partial to tinned potatoes, sweet corn and bread.
Willow Lodge is a fully enclosed glass lodge; where non-angling party members can sit and enjoy the views without getting their feet wet!
This also provides an ideal area for a BBQ. Local angling shops include the Horncastle Angling Centre that can be found on North Street. For more information on our facilities, please click here.
Pet Friendly Holiday Cottages
Dogs are welcome at Poachers Hideaway, which is a pet friendly holiday destination, in any of the cottages. Please check with us when booking regarding breed and number, as we generally prefer no more than 2 pets per cottage. Bowls and dog towels are provided in all cottages and we can provide throws for the sofas if required. We would ask you to keep dogs off the beds and furniture.
There are several miles of private footpaths on the farm for you to explore with your dog. There is also direct access to the Heritage Bridleway and Viking Way along with numerous public footpaths across the Wolds.
You can exercise your dogs to the side of the cottages designated beyond Willows Lodge and around the lakes. There is livestock on the farm however, so all dogs must be kept on leads at all times. We do ask that our guests pick up after their pets and dispose of "Pooh" bags in any of the bins around the farm.
Pet Friendly Holiday Beaches
There are many local pet friendly holiday beaches. e.g. Theddlethorpe, Sutton on Sea or Huttoft. These beaches are flat and sandy and expansive when the tide is out which is great fun for the dogs and yourselves.
Pet Friendly Pubs
The Bluebell Inn* at Belchford, West Ashby Arms at West Ashby, Three Horseshoes at Goulceby and The Durham Ox at Thimbleby are all dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the bar but please ring first if you wish to have a meal. * Except Saturday evening. There is a £20 charge per dog staying at Poachers Hideaway.
